2010 Jurisdictional Scholarship:

To:Worshipful Masters, Officers, and Members of Warranted Lodges; Worthy Matrons, Worthy Patrons, Officers and Members of Subordinate Chapters, Heads of Allied, Appendant and Concordant Bodies, and Officers and Members of their Subordinate Chapters, Courts, and Councils; and Others Awarding Scholarships

Greetings:

We are pleased to inform you that the 2010 Jurisdictional Scholarship Program is well underway as we continue a 50-plus year tradition of providing scholarships to deserving and meritorious Washington, DC Metropolitan Area high school graduates.

All organizations owing allegiance to the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge and the Georgiana Thomas Grand Chapter in conjunction with the Prince Hall Freemason and Eastern Star Charitable Foundation (PHFESCF), are requested to enthusiastically support this endeavor as we assist our youth to accomplish their goals of higher education.

We look forward to your full participation and encourage each of you to award not less than one organizational scholarship. The recommended minimum scholarship amount for all organizations is $500; with the exception of the warranted lodges, whose recommended minimum is $ 1,000.

In addition, the PHFESCF is proud to announce “The Jurisdictional Endowed Scholarship Initiative.” This initiative provides the special opportunity for organizations as well as individuals to establish endowed scholarship accounts; whereby funds will be directly used to provide continuous scholarships in the future.

Endowed scholarship accounts will be opened following the receipt of a written request to PHFESCF and $100.00, which will immediately be placed into the opened account. Participants are expected to commit to making regular account contributions to ensure fund levels increase to amounts appropriate for endowment.

All donations made to the 2010 Jurisdictional Scholarship Program and The Jurisdictional Endowed Scholarship Initiative must be made by check or money order, payable to “PHFESCF.” Please be advised, the PHFESCF is a 501(c) 3 organization and as such, donations made by individuals are tax deductible. Organizations are strongly encouraged to direct their individual contributors (i.e. members, friends, family, etc.) to make certain donation checks are addressed properly.

The 2010 Jurisdictional Scholarship Awards Program will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2010, 9:00 a.m., in the Prince Hall Center for the Performing Arts, located in the Masonic Temple.

To ensure your organization and awardees are included in the printed Scholarship Awards Program, please submit the attached Scholarship Recipient Information Form and donation check (payable to “PHFESCF”) to the 2010 Jurisdictional Scholarship Committee no later than Saturday, May 7, 2010. (Form will not be accepted without check).

For Allied and Appendant Bodies, special groups, and individuals that will pay scholarship awards directly, please note that you will be responsible for submitting the envelope enclosing the Scholarship Claim Instruction Letter, which will be given to the designated recipient at the Scholarship Awards Program. Should the organization not provide the Jurisdictional Scholarship Committee an instructional letter prior to Saturday, May 7, 2010, the recipient will not be listed in the printed Scholarship Awards Program.
